On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, the 18th year of the Singing and Art Competition took place. This year was also the last year. After a break of several years, the event returned to the Church of St. Václav on Pekařská street in Opava. We like these spaces very much, as they can enhance the experience of the entire event for both the audience and the performers themselves. The acoustics and interior of the church give the competition a real and unforgettable atmosphere.
At the beginning, Petra Večerková, the director of EUROTOPIA.CZ, o.p.s., said a few words, which was replaced in front of the audience by the choir of the Mendel Gymnasium in Opava, thus starting the singing part of the competition. 42 children participated in the musical part of the competition. Unreal singing performances rang out through the church. Everyone’s performances were unique. The theme of the singing competition was, as traditionally, free.
In the art part of the competition, the contestants painted on the theme “In the rhythm of the Čardáš”. The judges chose from 62 beautiful pictures that were entered into the competition. Choosing the winner wasn’t really an easy task, but in the end the jury managed it and awarded three artists in each category, while not forgetting to announce extraordinary awards as well. During the competition, children could participate in an art activity in the form of creating mandalas.
The drawings of all participating contestants will be from 1 to 14. November 2022 exhibited in the premises of the Prior department store in Krnov. The exhibition will open with a ceremonial opening on Friday, November 4. You can read more about the opening and the exhibition on our website and Facebook pages.
A total of 104 children from 10 different schools, 3 children’s homes and one low-threshold facility from the Moravian-Silesian region took part in the competition. We would like to once again thank all the participants who joined us in the competition.
Many thanks also go to Ilji Hurník Elementary School in Opava, which lent us an electric piano for the singing part of the competition, Mendel Gymnasium in Opava, which provided an accompanying program with the performance of the choir, and the company Kofola ČeskoSlovensko a.s., which donated drinks for the contestants.
The event was held with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Statutory City of Opava.
Project is funded by Norway grants 2014 – 2021.
